About Mark Kurkowski

Mark Kurkowski retired in his 27th year as a law enforcement officer with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Mr. Kurkowski, with 30 years of experience and training, specialized in investigating incidents of intimate partner violence, stalking, harassment, and sexual assault. During his tenure, he was assigned to the Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART Unit), The Grants to Encourage Arrest Program, and the St. Louis Regional Domestic Violence Prevention Team.

Currently, Mr. Kurkowski is the Owner of Kurkowski Consulting and Training, LLC. He provides awareness and prevention workshops on domestic violence, stalking, harassment, and workplace issues. With the introduction of VESSA (The Victim Economic Safety and Security Act), businesses are now obligated to grant employees time off if they or a family member is a victim of domestic violence, stalking, and/or sexual assault. VESSA also imposes additional requirements, such as training and documenting incidents that occur on business property. Mr. Kurkowski can assist businesses in meeting these VESSA requirements by providing training, documenting incidents that may occur on their property, advocacy, and threat assessments.

Moreover, Mr. Kurkowski offers training to organizations as a national and international subject matter expert. He serves as an instructor with the National Sheriffs Association and is an independent consultant to the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center through Aequitas. He has previously worked with the Stalking Resource Center and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Mr. Kurkowski co-created a cyberstalking curriculum for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. He is a certified instructor with BK Forensics and a consultant for the United States Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime-Training and Technical Assistance Center.

In the realm of media, Mr. Kurkowski can be seen as a consultant in the episode “Extreme Best Friends” in the 2022 Netflix Documentary, “I Am a Stalker.”
